About the Acer Palmatum 'Calico':
Variety: Acer Palmatum 'Calico', Calico Japanese Maple
Full Size: A compact, medium sized Japanese Maple that reaches about 1.8 metres tall while young and can mature to around 2.4 metres tall in 15 years, with a dense upright shrub like form. Width is commonly around 1.2 to 1.8 metres.
Foliage: Deciduous. Leaves emerge bright peach in early spring, shift to bright lime green on red stemmed new growth through the season, then finish with a mix of yellow, orange and red tones in autumn.
Why Choose the Acer Palmatum Calico?
Key Features:
• Outstanding spring colour, opening a warm peach tone that immediately stands out in the garden.
• Summer foliage brightens to lime green, especially on red stemmed new growth, giving great contrast against darker evergreens.
• Autumn colour is a true blend, with multiple yellows, oranges and reds showing through the canopy rather than a single flat tone.
• Naturally compact and dense, making it ideal for courtyards, smaller gardens, feature beds, and premium pot planting where space matters.
• Best foliage quality comes from morning sun or filtered sun with protection from hot, drying winds, particularly in warmer Australian positions.
