Full Size: A compact dwarf that typically reaches about 1.2 metres high and 1.5 metres wide in around 10 years, forming a very dense, rounded ball shape. It can grow larger over time in warmer conditions.
Foliage: Deciduous. Leaves open in early spring with pink tipping, mature to rich green, then finish in brilliant autumn tones ranging from orange through to scarlet red.

Why Choose the Acer Palmatum Coonara Pygmy?

Key Features:

• A true dwarf Japanese Maple with an naturally dense, rounded habit, ideal for small gardens, courtyards, feature beds, and high end pot planting.
• Spring growth has a fresh pink tipped flush, giving early season colour before settling into a clean rich green canopy for summer.
• One of the best compact choices for autumn colour, with foliage reliably shifting through bright orange into scarlet red.
• Naturally forms a tight, mounded shape with minimal pruning, making it a low maintenance feature that still looks structured and finished.
• Originates from a witches broom mutation found in Melbourne, which is why it stays compact and densely branched compared to standard seedlings.
• Performs best in well drained soil with consistent moisture, and benefits from protection from hot, drying winds to keep foliage looking its best through summer.
